Research: Parents are Positive about Technology


Recent research from the Family Online Safety Institute explores opinions about the evolving role technology plays in the lives of children today. According to the study, “the large majority of parents believe technology has a positive effect on their child’s future, career and life skills, and creativity.”

The “Parents, Privacy & Technology Use” report also provides insight into feelings about online privacy, social media use, and general positives and negatives kids face today. While the majority of adults believe access to research and knowledge is a benefit, privacy and health concerns remain.

Tonight, NBC will air the two-hour premiere of original series “Aquarius,” starring David Duchovny, at 8 p.m. CT. The entire series will be available starting tomorrow, May 29, on the NBC website. Suddenlink customers can also watch with Suddenlink2GO.

Duchovny stars as Sam Hodiak, a 1960s LAPD homicide detective. When he is charged with the case of a missing teen, Hodiak goes undercover to track Charles Manson and his followers before their infamous murder spree.

A Platform for Good (PfG), an interactive website aimed at helping parents and teens navigate the digital world, recommends reaching out to teens and young children for help accessing the latest technologies.

In a recent article, PfG asks, “Why not take advantage of the young expert in your home?” The site, originally launched by the Family Online Safety Institute, encourages parents to learn more about the social apps, entertainment and virtual worlds their children experience on a daily basis.
