Internet Favorites Come to Nick

Sketch comedy series “AwesomenessTV” debuts at 7 p.m. CT tonight on Nickelodeon.  The half-hour episodes will feature content from the popular teens-and-tweens Internet channel for which the series is named.  Look for plenty of character sketches, celebrity satires, and parody music videos.  Daniella Monet, best known to Nickelodeon fans as Trina on “Victorious,” will host.

Nickelodeon is available to all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.

Tonight on Nick: Kids Dish on Siblings

A new episode of “Nick News with Linda Ellerbee” gives kids a chance to tattle on their brothers and sisters.  “If I Were an Only Child:  The Top Ten Annoying Things My Siblings Do” premieres tonight on Nickelodeon (7 p.m. CT).

Expect some celebrities, too, including Nolan Gould of “Modern Family” and comedian Seth Meyers confessing how they irritate their own siblings.

Short Film Contest Salutes SpongeBob

This week, Nickelodeon began accepting entries for its first SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired short film competition, aptly named “SpongeBob SquareShorts: Original Fan Tributes.”

Filmmakers of all ages are invited to create original, SpongeBob-inspired short films for a chance to win a cash prize and trip for four to a screening event in Hollywood, Calif.   

The call for entries opened May 6, and will run through June 28. Entries can be submitted in two categories (under 18 years of age, and 18 and over) to www.SpongeBobSquareShorts.com.

Polls Open for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

The nominees have been announced and votes are now being accepted for Nickelodeon’s 26th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards, airing Saturday, March 23.  Beginning today, kids may cast their votes in 22 categories.

There are viewing marathons aplenty on the menu for Thanksgiving weekend. Channel Guide Magazine’s Jeff Pfeiffer compiled a list of nearly 70 such marathons.Among the participating cable networks are USA, History Channel, AMC, A&E, TLC, FX, Animal Planet, Food Network, TNT, TBS and HGTV. Nickelodeon Leads Kids Pick the President Initiative

Nickelodeon hits the campaign trail this fall with “Nick News with Linda Ellerbee” and its “Kids Pick the President” initiative. The initiative will offer election-themed educational content both on-air and online, leading up to the week-long kids’ vote starting Oct. 15.

The program begins with two Nick News specials, “Kids Pick the President: The Issues” on Monday, Sept. 17, followed by “Kids Pick the President: The Candidates” on Monday, Oct. 15. After the Oct. 15 special, children will have the opportunity to cast their vote for who they think should be the next president.

Nickelodeon Plans Programs Just for Moms

On Oct. 1, Nickelodeon will debut NickMomTV, a late-night programming block dedicated to women raising the network’s younger audience.  The four-hour comedy slot will feature a mix of original programming, including talk shows, stand-up and sketch comedy, and more.

The programming block will be an extension of NickMom.com, the one-time blog that recently expanded to a full-blown comedy and entertainment site.

Nickelodeon Grabs 40 Daytime Emmy Nominations

Nickelodeon earned 40 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television. Nickelodeon’s “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness” and “Penguins of Madagascar” each  received eight nominations. The awards will be presented June 23.

Among other cable networks earning multiple nominations were Disney Channel (6), Cartoon Network (3), MTV (3) and Discovery Channel (2). These networks and Nickelodeon are available to all or virtually all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.
