As part of its “Random Acts of mtvU” series, MTV and mtvU are teaming up with a host of celebrities to surprise and reward several hardworking, civic-minded college students. In a one-week lead-up to the MTV Video Music Awards (Aug. 25, 8 p.m. CT), MTV and mtvU will air daily segments in which students are surprised with celebrity messages supporting the “Boston Strong” initiative.
Each student will also receive a “once in a lifetime iconic VMA experience with performer Katy Perry, courtesy of Pepsi and mtvU; a Best Buy shopping spree; and Windows Phones to create visual interpretations of VMA-nominated songs.”
Other participating celebrities include Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran, 2 Chainz, Fall Out Boy, Jason Derulo, Tegan & Sara, Timeflies, and the cast of “Pretty Little Liars.”
The 38th annual Saturn Awards, which honored TV and film’s recent horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and action achievements, were held this week.
Best Film Awards went to “Marvel’s the Avengers” (Science Fiction); “Life of Pi” (Fantasy); “The Cabin in the Woods” (Horror/Thriller); and “Skyfall” (Action/Adventure).
Best TV Awards went to NBC’s “Revolution” (Best Network Series); AMC’s “The Walking Dead” (Best Syndicated/Cable Series) and “Breaking Bad” (Best Presentation on TV); and MTV’s “Teen Wolf” (Best Youth-Oriented Series).
