Lifetime’s inspirational biopic “The Gabby Douglas Story” debuts Saturday, Feb.1, 7 p.m. CT.
Beginning at age eight, gymnast Gabby was winning multiple state championship titles in her age group. Although her family faced economic challenges, they allowed a 14-year old Gabby to move from Virginia Beach to Des Moines, Iowa, to train with renowned coach Liang Chow.
Gabby went on to compete as a women’s artistic gymnast at the 2012 Summer Olympics and became the first U.S. gymnast to take home team and individual gold medals in the same Olympics. She is also the first woman of color of any nationality and the first African-American gymnast in Olympic history to become the Individual All-Around Champion.
Gabby stars as herself, from age 17. Two young actors, Imani Hakim and Sydney Mikayla, share the role of a younger Gabby. Regina King, S. Epatha Merkerson and Brian Tee co-star.
Lifetime is available to virtually all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.
