FX Debuts New Original Series Tonight

FX and Executive Producer Ryan Murphy are expanding the “American Horror Story” franchise tonight. Companion series “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” will premiere at 9 p.m. CT.

The anthology series will explore the chaotic court case of one of America’s most famous criminals. Cuba Gooding, Jr., John Travolta, Sarah Paulson, and David Schwimmer star.

‘Fargo’ Season 2 Begins Tonight on FX

The second installment of “Fargo,” FX’s critically acclaimed original series, premieres tonight at 9 p.m. CT. While the setting will remain in a small town, this season’s plot and cast will follow a new murder case involving a local crime family and a major mob syndicate.

“If the first four episodes are a fair indication, ‘Fargo’ has once again succeeded brilliantly, with a second series that is linked to the first and yet stands triumphantly on its own,” writes USA Today TV critic Robert Bianco.

Cable Again Wins Big at The Emmys

Cable networks had a strong showing at last night’s Primetime Emmys. Programs and individual actors on cable shows took home the majority of the awards in the major categories.

HBO dominated the evening with a total of 14 Emmy wins, including best drama series for “Game of Thrones” and comedy series for “Veep.” The network’s original miniseries “Olive Kitteridge” was also a standout, with a total of six wins.

AMC also fared well. John Hamm received one of the evening’s top honors, Lead Actor in a Drama Series, for his role in “Mad Men.”

Cable Nets Receive Top Emmy Nominations

Cable networks are once again set to dominate the Primetime Emmy Awards. For the second year in a row, “Game of Thrones” leads the race with 24 nods, helping make HBO the most-nominated network, with a total of 126. FX received 45 nods, including 20 for “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

Among other cable networks receiving multiple nominations were AMC (24), History Channel (11), Lifetime (10), Discovery Channel (7) and Disney Channel (4). These networks are available to virtually all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.

New & Returning Comedies on FX Tonight

Billy Crystal and Josh Gad star in the new FX original series “The Comedians,” premiering tonight at 9 p.m. CT. The mockumentary will give a fictional behind-the-scenes look at a late night sketch comedy show.

A new episode of the critically acclaimed original series “Louie” will follow, at 9:30 p.m. CT. Season five will continue to follow Emmy Award-winning comedian Louis C. K. and his observational humor.

Cable Networks Shine at 2015 Golden Globes

Cable networks had a strong showing at last night’s Golden Globes. More than half the awards presented to television programs went to cable networks and individual actors on cable shows.

FX led the way with “Fargo,” which won the Golden Globe for Best Miniseries and Best Actor. Premium network Showtime also had a strong night, as “The Affair” won Best TV Drama and Best Actress.

TV.com Names Best Cable Shows of 2014

Once again, cable brought some of the year’s most popular programming to viewers. Some feared 2014 might not offer the same quality of programming, with finales of popular shows “Breaking Bad” on AMC and “True Blood” on HBO. The lineup remains strong, however, with programs such as “Fargo” on FX and on “True Detective” on HBO pushing limits and beating expectations.

FX’s “American Horror Story: Coven” captured four Emmys, including lead actress and supporting actress in a TV miniseries or movie. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” also won four awards.
