From producer Simon Cowell, “La Banda” is a reality entertainment competition in search of the ultimate Latino super group. Grammy award-winning artists Ricky Martin, Alejandro Sanz and Laura Pausini will award five contestants a recording contract.  Univision will premiere “La Banda” on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. CT.

For Many, Social Media is a Primary News Source

Recent findings from The Pew Research Center indicate that people are turning to social media for more than connecting with friends. According to an article from Fast Company, “63% of users consider Facebook and Twitter a source of news.”

The research center surveyed 2,035 adults age 18 and above for the report. Resulting data shows people across all demographic groups now use social media to stay updated on current events, in addition to more traditional news sources.

Facebook Gives Platform to Organ Donors

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg appeared on “Good Morning America yesterday to tout the social media service’s newest feature, which allows users to share their organ donor status and link to databases where people in the United States and United Kingdom can register online to officially become donors.

Zuckerberg said there were several inspirations for the idea, including Steve Jobs’ life-extending liver transplant, Facebook users who have sought assistance after natural disasters, and conversations with his girlfriend, who is studying pediatric medicine.

TNT Launches New ‘Dallas’ Series Facebook Page

In preparation for its new Dallas” cable TV series, set to premiere this June, TNT today launched a Facebook page to bring viewers up to date with the Ewing clan.

Using Facebook’s Timeline, the page features photos, videos, check-ins and comments to chronicle all 14 seasons of the original series. It also reveals what has happened in the characters’ lives over the 20 years since they were last seen on TV, as envisioned by the new show’s writers.

TNT is available to all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.

Prepare for Facebook’s Timeline Feature

Many Facebook users are concerned with the social network’s new, mandatory Timeline feature, which will display all the photos, links and posts they’ve ever shared on their Facebook page.  According to Facebook, over the next few weeks, every user will get the Timeline feature. They will have seven days to preview it and edit what content the feature will show.
