Elevation Weekend Begins Saturday

Following remarkable success with Shark Week, Discovery Channel has another programming event in the works. Elevation Weekend will begin this Saturday, April 23.

The two-day programming marathon will highlight heroic expeditions. On Saturday, new film “Sherpa” will premiere at 8 p.m. CT. The documentary explores how Mount Everest’s climbing community united in grief and anger to reclaim the mountain following the deadly avalanche that struck on April 18, 2004, killing 16 people.

Discovery Channel is available to all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.

Final Week to Enter Science Challenge

Tomorrow, April 20, is the deadline to submit an idea for the chance to win a mentorship with a 3M scientist, and a $25,000 prize. Discovery’s 2016 Young Scientist Challenge invites students in grades 5-8 to create a one-to two-minute video describing a new, innovative solution that could solve an everyday problem.

Ten national finalists will earn a summer mentorship to bring their innovative ideas to life. The highest scoring applicant will be named America’s Top Young Scientist.

Discovery Education is a division of Discovery Communications, which produces Animal PlanetDiscovery ChannelTLC and other channels.

Cable Nets Receive Top Emmy Nominations

Cable networks are once again set to dominate the Primetime Emmy Awards. For the second year in a row, “Game of Thrones” leads the race with 24 nods, helping make HBO the most-nominated network, with a total of 126. FX received 45 nods, including 20 for “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

Among other cable networks receiving multiple nominations were AMC (24), History Channel (11), Lifetime (10), Discovery Channel (7) and Disney Channel (4). These networks are available to virtually all Suddenlink customers who have what is commonly known as Expanded Basic TV service.

Shark Week 2015 kicks off Sunday, July 5, at 7 p.m. CT. Summer’s most anticipated week of programming will feature more visually-stunning and informative shark-filled specials than ever before.

‘Deadliest Catch’ Returns for Eleventh Season

The Discovery Channel will launch season eleven of “Deadliest Catch” this evening. Tonight’s premiere will feature massive storms, a super typhoon and new regulations changing the rules of one of the most dangerous professions on earth.

The 13-time Emmy Award-winning series airs a new episode at 8 p.m. CT.
