‘Deadliest Catch’ Returns for Tenth Season

deadliest-catchThe Discovery Channel will launch season ten of “Deadliest Catch” this evening at 8 CT.

Tonight’s premiere marks ten years at sea for the reality show, which depicts life aboard vessels on the Bering Sea in the midst of crab-fishing season. “Deadliest Catch” will continue to follow fishermen working in one of the most dangerous professions on earth.

Discovery Cancels Everest Jump Live

After a tragic avalanche killed at least 13 people Friday, the Discovery Channel has cancelled the live broadcast of Everest Jump Live, scheduled for May 11.

The network had planned to air daredevil Joby Ogwyn’s attempt at the first wing-suit flight off the top of Mount Everest. The primetime event will no longer take place.

The Discovery Channel released a statement Sunday saying, “In light of the overwhelming tragedy at Mount Everest and respect for the families of the fallen, Discovery Channel will not be going forward with Everest Jump Live. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Sherpa community.”

‘Heirs to the Dare’ Features Current Stunt Artists

Three adrenaline junkies follow in the footsteps of past daredevils, performing dangerous stunts on Discovery Channel’s “Heirs to the Dare,” premiering tonight, 8 p.m. CT.

The show follows famed Harley rider Bubba Blackwell; Henry “Pitbull” Rife, an ATV stunt artist with a local following who hopes to hit the big-time; and retired daredevil Super Joe Reed, who is looking for a comeback. All three are willing to break bones as they attempt to break records.

Discovery Special: Wing-Suit Flight off Everest

If you tuned in to Nik Wallenda’s 2013 live tightrope walk over the Grand Canyon, you were in good company. The special garnered about 13 million viewers for Discovery.

The network has a similar live event scheduled for some time yet to be announced in May. This time Discovery viewers will be invited to watch Joby Ogwyn attempt the first wing-suit flight off the top of Mount Everest.

In addition to wing-suit piloting, Ogwyn, an American who splits his time between California and Italy, is a world-renowned alpinist and BASE jumper.

‘Klondike’ Premieres Tonight, Watch to Win

Discovery’s first scripted mini-series, “Klondike,” debuts tonight at 8 p.m. CT.

The series, directed by Ridley Scott and inspired by the Charlotte Gray novel “Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike,” follows the lives of two friends in the late 1890s as they flock to the gold rush capital in the untamed Yukon Territory.

To promote the show’s debut, Discovery is hosting a Klondike Sweepstakes. Three lucky viewers will each win $50,000. Sweepstakes details are available on the Discovery website.

New On Demand: ‘Before Midnight’

Critically acclaimed romantic drama “Before Midnight” is now available through Suddenlink On Demand.

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy return in this sequel to “Before Sunrise” (1995) and “Before Sunset” (2004). “Before Midnight” finds Jesse and Celine still in Greece, nine years after the last film and nearly two decades since they first met on a train bound for Vienna.

MythBusters Explore Zombie Questions Tonight

What would happen if there really was a zombie invasion? That’s the topic the MythBusters explore tonight (9 p.m. CT) in a “Walking Dead”-themed Zombie Special on Discovery Channel. With help from former “Walking Dead” star Michael Rooker, the MythBusters will answer a variety of zombie-apocalyptic questions, such as “How do those shuffling corpses always seem to catch up to their living prey?”

Discovery Bows 9/11, White House Specials Tonight

Tonight, Discovery offers two new specials, “9/11 Firehouse” (7 p.m. CT), followed immediately by “The Presidents’ Gatekeepers.”

9/11 Firehouse” documents the story of the “Ten House” firefighters, who were the first to enter and the last to leave the Twin Towers during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against the United States. For the first time on national television, the firefighters collectively recall their stories. NBC’s Willie Geist narrates.

The Presidents’ Gatekeepers” features exclusive interviews with all 20 living White House chiefs of staff and former presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.

9/11 Anniversary Programming Starts This Weekend

Beginning tomorrow and running through next week, new and returning television documentaries, specials and movies will mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America. Channel Guide Magazine has a lengthy list of programming that will recall the events and their impact on the country.

Shark Week Starts Sunday on Discovery

The 26th edition of Shark Week, television’s longest-running summer TV event, returns to Discovery Channel on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. CT. Over the course of the week, Discovery will present 11 episodes, three more than last year.

Shows will be coupled with the first-ever late night Shark Week talk show, “Sharks After Dark.” Hosts of the hour-long show will highlight favorite moments from the week’s action and talk to guests ranging from shark experts to shark attack survivors.
