According to Nielson ratings, aging reality shows have taken the lead in TV programming this summer. Shows that have been airing a minimum of nine years, such as “America’s Got Talent” on NBC, are the most-watched among adults between the ages of 18 and 49.

Other notable summer reality series include “Big Brother” on CBS, “The Bachelorette” on ABC and “Hell’s Kitchen” on FOX.

TV News Search Service Launched

The Internet Archive is now offering a free TV news search service. The TV News Search & Borrow’s database contains roughly 350,000 television news video clips and transcripts starting in 2009. Users can access programs produced by 20 different broadcast and cable networks. The project also allow users to borrow the video clips via DVD. Program clips are added 24 hours after they’re first aired, with older programs also being added over time.

Beyond being a tool for researchers and news junkies, the service is designed to help engaged citizens better understand the issues and candidates in the 2012 elections.
