Cable Gets High Marks at Primetime Emmy Awards

Cable networks once again dominated several categories at last night’s Emmy Awards.

AMC’s “Mad Men” earned its fourth consecutive Best Drama statue. Other solid cable contenders were Showtime’s “Dexter” and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” and “Game of Thrones.”

Best Animated Series went to Comedy Central’s “Futurama.” Cable nominees in the category included Cartoon Network’s “Robot Chicken” and Comedy Central’s “South Park.”

Comedy Central wrapped up the Best Variety, Musical or Comedy category, too, with “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” Stewart’s cable competition included his network’s “The Cobert Report,” as well as TBS’ “Conan” and HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Crowned tops for Best Reality Series was Discovery’s “Deadliest Catch.” Also in the running were A&E’s “Hoarders,” Bravo’s “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” and Discovery’s “MythBusters.”
